Focusing on Maples at the July 23rd AABS Meeting
July 23rd, 2008, 7:30pm, at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens Auditorium|
Maples are among the most popular types of tree species for bonsai cultivation. They adapt well to a variety of styles and are often used in forest plantings. Of the many species of maple perhaps the most commonly used in bonsai are Japanese maple (Acer palmatum), Trident maple (Acer buergeranum), and the Amur maple (Acer tataricum ginnala). There are many cultivars and variations within the species, but most maples grow best where there are seasonal changes and while some may require special over-wintering needs, the majority of maples are ideal for Michigan bonsai growers. Members growing maples of any kind as bonsai, as well as those interested in maple bonsais, are invited to bring trees for the enjoyment of others to discuss and acquire advice from four AABS panelists and the audience as well. Connie Crancer, Cyril Grum, Bill Heston and Jack Wikle will lead the discussion. SEE YOU THERE! |
